Easy Classic Spinach Dip is an amazing, creamy spinach dip appetizer perfect for dipping with tortilla chips. It’s actually delicious!

The thought of spinach might turn you off.
I don’t particularly care for spinach, though I don’t hate it either. It’s healthy (more so than iceberg lettuce) so I like to add it to lettuce salads sometimes.
Way back, the first time I ate at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen I discovered they make a scrumptious spinach artichoke dip appetizer, or something like that, which I actually thought was delicious! I couldn’t believe I liked it.
That’s what convinced me to make something similar.
Without artichokes, though.
And here it is, the surprise recipe of the month, the one I didn’t expect to like: Spinach Dip. Best part is, it’s a very simple and easy, classic recipe. It’s a win-win! (And may or may not be one of my new favorite appetizers!)

Supplies
We linked the ones we used, or something similar!
- Pan – to cook the spinach a little before adding it to the dip
- Kitchen knife – you’ll then want to cut the spinach into bite-sized pieces
- Cutting board
- Mixing bowl
- Electric handheld mixer – works great to whip everything up
- Baking dish – we used a Pyrex 8×8 square baking dish
- Grater – to shred your own cheese (it’s better that way!)

Ingredients
Spinach – fresh spinach is the star ingredient.
Cream cheese – a softened block of cream cheese, as you might have guessed.
Sour cream – regular full fat sour cream
Mayonnaise – real mayo, we don’t recommend substituting with anything like Miracle Whip.
Garlic – minced garlic. We used the canned stuff this time, though freshly minced is best!
Worcestershire sauce – adds a unique tang. (This is an optional ingredient.)
Mozzarella cheese – grated fresh from the block, or pre-shredded from the grocery store.
Tortilla chips – for serving. You can use your favorite chip though, like pita chips, corn chips, or even baguette slices, etc.

How to make Easy Classic Spinach Dip
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

In a saucepan on the stove, heat about 1/4 cup of water. (Or just add water until the bottom of the pan is covered.) Once the water is boiling, add the spinach and simmer on medium-low heat for about 5 minutes or until the spinach is softly cooked. Transfer the spinach to a cutting board with a fork or spoon (leave that excess liquid in the saucepan) and chop into small pieces as best as you can.

Place the softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl and beat with a handheld mixer. Then add the sour cream, mayonnaise, minced garlic, worcestershire sauce, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and cooked, chopped spinach and give everything a good stir.

Grease an 8×8 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and spread the spinach dip mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with the rest of the shredded mozzarella cheese and bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until bubbly and the cheese is starting to turn golden brown. If you really want the cheese golden brown, turn on the broiler for a little bit! (like, a few minutes, don’t burn it!)

Serve hot with tortilla chips. Enjoy.🧡
Storage
Store leftover spinach dip in an airtight container (or cover with plastic wrap) and keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the oven or microwave until the spinach dip is piping hot and enjoy all over again.

Notes on Easy Classic Spinach Dip
I have used frozen spinach instead of fresh already, just don’t do the cooking step. Thaw, chop, and add to the cream cheese mixture. The consistency of the dip may be a little different as well.
Add some parmesan cheese along with the shredded mozzarella for some more lovely flavor.
I’ve heard of folks using fresh vegetables like carrot sticks or celery sticks for dipping and eating with this hot spinach dip. Just thought I’d put it out there, even though I’m not a fan of it!
Here’s a fun serving idea: place the creamy dip in a bread bowl to serve! Garnish with sliced green onions; it’ll be sure to be a big hit!
