Layered Ground Beef Taco Dip consists of four yummy layers of classic taco flavor and ingredients. A creamy base layer, ground beef, lettuce, and cheese layers, then served with tortilla chips.

Whether you’re in need of the perfect appetizer recipe or simply a quick meal, this is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Or change things up this taco Tuesday with a taco dip instead of the regular tacos.
We live in the Midwest.
And one consistent thing about living here, we get hot, humid summers.
On hot days, it’s nice to have a cool lunch or dinner option with something like a taco layer dip.
Such is the case today! I usually keep our favorite taco toppings and ingredients on hand, since it makes a wonderful last minute meal when I’m in a pinch. So, instead of doing the usual tacos, today I am making an easy layered taco dip!

Simple Ingredients
Cream cheese – regular unflavored cream cheese.
Sour cream – full fat sour cream. (Or plain greek yogurt makes a fine substitute!)
Taco seasoning – from the store or you can totally make homemade taco seasoning.
Onion – we used a large white onion, but any will do.
Ground beef – your choice of ground beef.
Black beans – a great way to add more protein to the taco dip.
Shredded lettuce – we like romaine lettuce, though iceberg lettuce or a spring mix of greens is also delicious.
Shredded cheese – instead of using pre-shredded cheese, shred your own cheese for the best flavor and texture! We used cheddar cheese.
Tortilla chips – for dipping!

How to make Layered Ground Beef Taco Dip
First thing, we’re going to prepare layer 2, the ground beef mixture, so it can cool before assembly. Cook and brown the ground beef with the diced onion. Once the ground beef is fully cooked to your liking, drain off the excess grease and return to the pan.

Drain and rinse the black beans and add them, along with the taco seasoning, to the pan with the ground beef. Mix thoroughly and allow to cool.
Next, we’ll make the first layer. In a mixing bowl, place the softened cream cheese and sour cream and taco seasoning. Use an electric hand mixer to quickly mix well, leaving no lumps.
In a 9×9 pan, or serving dish of your choice, spread the taco flavored cream cheese and sour cream mixture.

Spread the ground beef mixture on top of the cream cheese and sour cream layer.

Top with chopped lettuce and shredded cheese.
Serve wth tortilla chips.

Enjoy🧡
Notes
In case you’re like me, when using bulk taco seasoning I can never remember how much taco seasoning is in a packet; there are about 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning in one packet.
This layered taco dip is best right after it’s made. If you’re wanting to make this easy appetizer ahead of time, simply prepare all the layers then just assemble right before ready to serve.
Storage
Place leftover dip in an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap to store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Customize your Layered Ground Beef Taco Dip
As usual, you don’t have to use ground beef. It’s our favorite, yes, but ground turkey is also good.
The next idea I’m about to share is not everyone’s thing, but adding a squeeze of lime juice to the sour cream and cream cheese mixture adds a fun flavor. Also a little bit of chili powder, along with the taco seasoning mix, adds some extra flavor to the cream cheese mixture.
The two classic toppings for this layered taco dip are chopped lettuce and shredded cheese; however, there are a whole host of toppings that can make a great addition to those two. Here’s a list to give you some ideas: chunky salsa, guacamole, sliced black olives, sliced green onions, diced tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, diced bell peppers, maybe even hot sauce?!
Our favorite chips to use for dipping are tortilla chips, though corn chips or pita chips can be a good substitute.
Add your favorite toppings to make this dish perfect for you and yours.
