No Bake Energy Balls: Chocolate and Peanut Butter Snack
Another day, another protein ball recipe.😅
This time, we're going with my favorite flavor - chocolate!
Protein balls have become my go-to snack to keep around. They're so easy to make, there's no baking and they're (at least somewhat) healthy! I find store-bought protein snacks (or any "healthy" snacks from the store, in general) to be rather expensive and/or they often still contain mystery ingredients. And they actually don't taste that great. To me, anyway.
No-bake protein balls like these 4-Ingredient Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls, these Energy Fiber Balls or these chocolate & peanut butter energy balls are simple, quick and budget friendly. (All of my favorite things!:)
You can customize them a bunch of different ways and also, you can know exactly what all the ingredients are. So, if you're looking for a homemade healthy snack recipe, try these Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Balls.🤎

The Simple Ingredients you'll need
- Oats - old fashioned rolled oats, or quick oats
- Flaxseed meal - currently I have this Bob's Red Mill ground flaxseed meal
- Cocoa powder - unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
- Peanut butter - I like to go for a natural peanut butter, right now I have a can of creamy peanut butter from Thrive Market, so that's what I'll be using.
- Honey - or maple syrup
- Chia seeds
- Chocolate chips - these Enjoy Life chocolate chips have ok ingredients and they taste good!
- Salt
Supplies You'll Need (and what we used!)
- Mixing bowl - I use my KitchenAid stand mixer
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Cookies scoop - I like to use a cookie scoop to shape the balls
- Storage container

How to Store Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Balls
Store the protein balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or freeze them for several months.
Tips, Tricks and Notes
If your mixture is too dry and it won't stick together in a ball, add more honey or peanut butter.
If your mixture is too sticky and wet, add more of any of the dry ingredients.
Fun Add-ins to add to Protein Balls
- Coconut flakes
- Chips (vanilla, peanut butter, butterscotch chips or M&M's instead of chocolate chips)
- Cinnamon
- Protein powder (replace some of the cocoa with chocolate protein powder to add an extra little punch of protein!)
- Rice Krispies
- Vanilla extract (or something like almond or peppermint extract)
If you decide to add some other ingredients than what the recipe includes, you might want to add less oats or maybe more honey or peanut butter to make the mixture the right consistency for shaping into balls.
If you really want to take these over the top, add a drizzle of melted chocolate and a sprinkle of flaky salt (like Maldon sea salt). It's amazing!:)
