This simple brown rice recipe is the best one I've found to make a pot of fluffy and soft brown rice! It's very easy with only 3 ingredients and it turns out good every time.

An Easy Recipe for Soft and Fluffy Brown Rice
Did you ever make (or try to make) brown rice and ugh, it would not get soft or then it turned out sticky? Just me?
I've found that the key to making soft and fluffy brown rice is lots of time and water. (I originally found this recipe from Kristine's Kitchen Blog several years ago, and I've been making brown rice this way ever since! Though I do it a little different than she does.)
Anyway, as I was saying. You need plenty of water to rinse the rice, and plenty to cook the rice! And then, no rushing. Cooking brown rice just does take longer than white rice, so ya just need to have a little patience.
Brown rice is said to be healthier than white rice, since it's whole grain. But it can also be high in heavy metals naturally found in soil like lead and arsenic. Which is another reason to use lots of water in rinsing and cooking! Wash some of that stuff away, hopefully.
I like to serve brown rice with Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Creole or any other chicken recipe.
Supplies You'll Need (and what we used)
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Cooking pot with a lid that fits nice and snug - I normally use my 2-quart cooking pot unless if I'm making a double batch, then it's nice to have a slightly bigger pot! This is my set of stainless steel pots and pans
- Something to stir with
- Fine mesh strainer

All About the Ingredients
There's only three!
- Water
- Rice - regular plain brown rice. Today I'm using brown Basmati rice from Aldi! Any brown rice should work as long as it's not minute rice or parboiled brown rice.
- Salt - today I used Redmond Real Salt

How to make our Simple Brown Rice Recipe
Rinse the rice under cool running water until the water runs clear. This is to help remove any impurities and extra starches!

Bring the water to a boil in a pot on the stove. (Make sure said pot has a lid that fits! We'll need it later)
Add the salt and rinsed rice. Once the water returns to boiling, reduce the heat and let the rice simmer for 30 minutes or until the rice is nice and soft. (It might be a good idea to set a timer so you don't forget it) I like to give the rice a stir occasionally throughout the cooking process.

Once the rice is done cooking, pour it into a large fine mesh strainer to drain off all the water.

Then dump the rice back into the pot. Put the lid on and set it back on the burner, but with the burner turned OFF.

Let the rice set for 10 (or more) minutes.
Fluff with a fork and serve. Enjoy!

How to Store Leftover brown Rice
Put any leftover rice in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Tips, Tricks and Notes
This recipe is for plain brown rice. Not minute rice or parboiled rice or anything like that.
Sometimes I like to add black beans! Rinse and drain them, then add them during the last couple minutes of cooking. Drain and let the rice and beans steam like usual.
This recipe doesn't make a very large amount, but you can easily double the recipe! Though I would not double the water amount. Eight to ten cups of water should be a nice amount for 2 cups of rice.
