Here's an Easy Homemade Italian Seasoning Recipe to make and use in place of the store-bought Italian herb blend. Did you know it's super easy to make your own Italian seasoning? Yes! And it only takes like 5 minutes with a handful of dried Italian herbs.

Delicious Italian Seasoning Blend
Whew, I love springtime. I feel as if I can't enjoy it enough. I can't soak it up as much as it deserves to be, it's so lovely. The warm sunshine that's not too hot, the birds singing, the lovely smell from the blooming locust tree in the yard... *happy sigh*
Anyways. I have herbs growing in my garden again this year - parsley and basil. Not sure if I'll plant a few more herbs yet or no.
I love having my own home-grown herbs, for fresh herbs to eat all summer long, but also for drying and turning into flakes for winter cooking.
Another thing that's very easy to make with dried herbs is Italian seasoning! And this is actually today's topic:) I just mixed up a batch this morning. It takes maybe five minutes, and only five herbs you might already have in your spice collection.
Probably my favorite part about making my own spice blends is how you can customize them to your liking! I love this simple blend, using herbs I already have in my house so there's no special spice needed just for this homemade Italian seasoning mix. (Though fresh spices are the best!) You can play around with the flavors and ratios all you want.
This recipe does make a bulk batch (more than you'd use all at one time, usually) though it's still a smaller amount, possibly three-fourths of a cup. So I actually made a double batch today! I'm pretty sure we'll get it used up fast enough to still be fresh until the end:)

How to make our Easy Homemade Italian Seasoning

Pour all the ingredients into a jar and shake to combine thoroughly. (A funnel works great, especially if littles are helping!)

Use in place of Italian seasoning in recipes.

Enjoy!
How to Store Italian Seasoning
Store the Italian seasoning in an airtight container or spice jar (or a mason jar and lid works great!) in a spice cabinet or other dry, cool and dark place. Italian seasoning is best the first six months, though it should last for a year (or even longer, it just might not taste too fresh at that point!).
Tips, Tricks and Notes on making homemade Italian seasoning
I love the simplicity of this recipe, but if you do want to add more herbs to the mix, you can! Here's a few that I've seen in Italian seasoning blends: marjoram, savory, sage and also garlic powder, onion powder, or red pepper flakes. Customize it to suit yourself:)
Use fresh dried herbs! By this I mean use a freshly opened package of dried herbs from the store for the best flavor. Or freshly dried, homegrown herbs.
You can grind the rosemary and thyme leaves a little if you wish, before adding them to the mix.

Ingredients
- 3 tbsp. basil
- 3 tbsp. parsley
- 3 tbsp. oregano
- 1 tsp. thyme leaves
- 1 tsp. rosemary leaves
Instructions
- Pour all the ingredients into a jar and shake to combine thoroughly.

Notes
Storage: store the Italian seasoning in an airtight container (a mason jar and lid work great!) in a spice cupboard or other dry, cool and dark place. Italian seasoning is best fresh, so preferably use within 6 months. (Though it can last up to a year or longer, it just won't taste as fresh.)
