Chopped BLT Sandwich Salad Recipe
Tomatoes are in season at the moment, so guess what I am making? BLT salad! (And BLT sandwiches, too, but today we're talking about salad.) Fresh tomatoes are SO good.
This blt chopped salad is a super simple salad with a fun, homemade, creamy mustard dressing. Totally optional, but I like to make my own croutons and fry my own bacon for bacon bits, so that takes a bit of time. Otherwise this salad is very quick and easy!
Supplies You'll Need (and what we used)
- Cutting board and kitchen knife - to chop the salad ingredients
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Mixing bowl and whisk - for mixing the dressing
- Large bowl - for the salad
Ingredients (and Substitutions)
- Lettuce - iceberg, romaine lettuce, spring greens - use your favorite lettuce! I used iceberg this time.
- Tomatoes - either a big tomato that's diced, or cherry tomatoes (which is what I'm using today)
- Bacon - I like to fry my own bacon, but you can also use bacon bits from the store
- Croutons - either store-bought or homemade croutons
for the dressing:
- Mayonnaise - real mayo. I would not use Miracle Whip for this.
- Milk
- Vinegar - white vinegar
- Mustard - regular yellow mustard
- Sugar - I use cane sugar

How to make a Chopped BLT Salad
First, whisk the dressing ingredients together in a mixing bowl. (Can also use a blender) This gives the sugar time to dissolve before serving! I like to pour the dressing into a condiment bottle.

Now, prep the salad ingredients. Fry and chop the bacon, and bake the croutons, if making your own bacon bits and croutons for the salad. [Simple crouton recipe]

Wash and chop the lettuce and tomatoes.

And that's it! You can put all the salad ingredients in one bowl and serve right away, or store everything in a separate dish until ready to serve.

Enjoy!

How to store Chopped BLT Salad
The lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon bits can be stored together in one airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. The croutons should be stored separately in an airtight container at room temperature. The dressing needs to be stored in the fridge, too, of course.
Tips, Tricks and Notes
Mix the salad together just before serving! Or at least wait to add the croutons until ready to serve. Otherwise they'll likely turn soft and soggy.
Add extra protein to this salad by adding grilled or cooked chicken, chopped hard-boiled eggs, nuts or seeds, shredded cheese, etc.
